In the morning, we got up and had the complimentary hotel breakfast, which consisted of a regular breakfast of eggs, bacon, and biscuits. We were surprised by this before we learned that most of the people that frequent the hotel are american tourists. After we all finished breakfast, we grabbed our cameras and headed out to explore Mumbai!
Culture
We were picked up outside of our hotel for a day-long Bollywood tour of Mumbai that visits most of the popular tourists spots such as the Victoria Terminus Station, Flora Fountain, Gateway of India, Prince of Wales museum, and Juhu Beach. Our favorite sites were the Gateway of India
and the Prince of Wales museum.
History
The Gateway of India is a large arch that overlooks the Arabian Sea and provides a warm welcome to weary travelers. It is also Mumbai's most famous monument. This building was completed in 1924 to commemorate King George V and Queen Mary of England visiting the colony. Today, it is referred to as the Taj Mahal of Mumbai, and is the top tourist attraction in the city. Everyday thousands of people walk around and admire the beauty of this incredible 85-foot high Basalt arch. When we visited, we all marveled at the massive build and beautiful, unique style
History
Our other favorite location on the tour was the Prince of Wales museum, The Prince of Whales Museum was built to honor the visit of the Prince of Wales, the future King George V. It now contains a vast amount of one-of-a-kind pieces that have cultural meaning to Indian history, such as astounding natural history artifacts and Indian paintings. The museum also offers a wide collection of European paintings and armor. For dinner we all tried Palak Paneer, which is a vegetarian dish consisting of spinach and paneer. It was also served with naan, which is, in concept, basically an Indian flat bread. It was tough to decide which of all of these Indian dishes we enjoyed the most. After dinner, we went back to the Cruz Royale hotel to sleep.
